COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – According to officials with the Columbia Police Department, a person is dead following an accident involving two motorcycles and a car on North Main Street Friday afternoon.

The initial investigation indicates that the motorcyclists were traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver of a vehicle traveling north was  attempting to make a left hand turn on to Mason Road hitting the driver of the motorcyle, police say.

The impact caused the car to collide with the other motorcycle.

All drivers were transported to a local hospital.

The motorcycle riders were not wearing helmets, police say.

The case remains under investigation by the traffic safety unit.
