Columbia man dies eight days after car collision

HOPKINS, S.C. (WOLO) – Richland County Coroner Gary Watts is releasing the name of the individual who died as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred on July 7 at Old Hopkins and Montgomery Roads in Hopkins.

Robert Spigner, 56, of Columbia, was transported to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital by Richland County EMS.

Mr. Spigner was the driver of his vehicle and died yesterday at 5:10 p.m. at the hospital.  An autopsy indicated that he died from Pneumonia and Sepsis due to complications of blunt force injuries to the torso due to a motor vehicle collision.

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
