Orangeburg County man charged following attempted kidnapping of ex-wife

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO)– An Orangeburg County man is being charged in connection with a Sunday 12-hour long standoff and kidnapping, said OCSO.

According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, 53-year-old Harvey McDaniel is accused of kidnapping his ex-wife who escaped then having a 12-hour long standoff with deputies.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said McDaniel has been charged with seven counts of attempted murder stemming from shots fired at deputies, three counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

McDaniel was already out on probation for a previous manslaughter charge.

He was taken into custody after deputies and support agencies surrounded his Melody Lane home on early Sunday after finding his location.
