Updated plans for redevelopment project of Richland Mall announced

The City of Forest Acres held a press conference on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 to give an update on the redevelopment of Richland Mall.

Officials say $3 million from the state budget will be allocated towards the purchase and development of a new city park at the site of the old mall.

The 32-acre mall was purchased by Southeastern Development LLC in early 2023.

“We are thrilled to say the public can soon expect to see this monstrous structure coming down to pave the way for this generational transformation.” says Forest Acres Mayor Thomas Andrews.

Officials say the plan for the site is to have a mixed-use property that includes retail, a large grocery store, apartment homes and a brewery or tap room overlooking a new city park.

The City of Forest Acres purchased nearly six-acres of mall property to develop into a large green space for hosting large events and concerts.
