SCSU honors 3 lives killed in Orangeburg Massacre

 

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO)–  On Thursday, South Carolina State University honored the 3 lives lost in the Orangeburg Massacre on the 56th anniversary of the tragedy.

The event began at 10 a.m. in the Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium.

On February 8, 1968, police officers fired shots into a crowd of hundreds protesting segregation at a nearby bowling alley.

18-year-old Henry Smith, 17-year-old Delano Middleton and 18-year-old Samuel Hammond Jr. died while 28 others were injured.
