Woman charged with Summerton mayor’s death

 

SUMMERTON, S.C. (WOLO)– The woman allegedly responsible for the crash that killed the mayor of Summerton last month has been charged with a felony DUI, resulting in death, say officials.

South Carolina Highway Patrol, says 33-year-old Tony Singleton hit Summerton Mayor Tony Junius’ vehicle on Governor Richardson Road on Jan. 27, 2023.

Mayor Junius died from his injuries. Singleton is being held at Clarendon County Detention Center.

Town councilmember Darian Canty is serving as the interim mayor but the Town of Summerton will hold a special election on April 2.
