Woman acts in self-defense, fatally shoots intruder at Greenbrier Apartments

A woman, protecting her two children, found herself face-to-face with danger when a man forced his way into her home, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department. 

 

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A woman, protecting her two children, found herself face-to-face with danger when a man forced his way into her home, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Richland County deputies were dispatched to a shooting at 100 Willow Oak, Greenbrier Apartments, around 5 a.m. on Sunday, February 11th. Upon arrival, they encountered a woman who had shot and killed a man in her apartment.

The woman claims she heard banging at the door to her residence that she shared with her two minor children. As she approached the door, the man gained entry into the apartment. The woman told deputies she retrieved a gun from her purse and asked the man to identify himself. He continued to approach the woman and at that time she shot and killed him. She called law enforcement immediately after this occurred.

Investigators say the woman was brought to headquarters for questioning and was released shortly after, when it was determined that she acted in self defense.

No charges are being filed and the woman’s two minor children were not harmed, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
