Lexington, SC (WOLO) — A substitute teacher, the Pelion Police Department says was hired by the outsourcing company Kelly Services is facing two counts of Assault and Battery. Authorities say the woman, identified by police as Alice Johnson was working in the Forts Pond Elementary School when one student complained that she pushed him to the ground. Another student also alleges he was assaulted by the same substitute who told police Johnson picked him up by his neck, lifting the young boy off of his feet. Authorities, say neither of the male students were serious injured during the alleged incidents and no further details were given as to what, if anything led to the purported incidents.
Pelion Police say once they were notified by Lexington School District One an investigation into the allegations was immediately initiated. Kelly Services was notified, and Johnson was removed from all future assignments at the Forts Pond Elementary school pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities say after taking witness, and victim statements they determined that a criminal act had taken place. Johnson is expected to turn herself into the Lexington County Detention Center to face the charges she now faces.
