Coroner releases identity of body found in Congaree River in Sandy Run

CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Calhoun County Coroner Donnie Porth and Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers has released the identity of the body found in the Congaree River in Sandy Run on Saturday.

According to Coroner Donnie Porth the body of 45-year-old Eddie Leon Norris of Leesville was found by boaters below the Eastman and Dak Americas industrial facilities around 3:00 p.m.

An autopsy was conducted by Newberry Pathology at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The results of the toxicology from the State Law Enforcement Division’s Lab is still pending, said officials.

Also the incident and the cause of death are still under investigation.

“We have accounted for Mr. Norris’ location up until early December, based on the evidence so far we do not believe there is any foul play involved, but my investigators will continue to work closely with the Coroner’s Office until we have determined the cause and manner of death,” Sheriff Summers stated.
