RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A 16-year-old student was arrested at Lower Richland High School after attempting to rob another student says RCSD.

Richland County deputies say during the robbery attempt, a fight broke out and the school’s SROs tried to it break it up.

“This will not be tolerated,” states Sheriff Leon Lott.

During the SROs attempt to break up the fight, one deputy was hit in the face.

And another SRO had a dislocated shoulder due to the teen resisting while being detained.

The sheriff’s department says the SROs used their taser on the teen and then placed him under arrest.

The SRO who was struck has been released from the hospital, while the other SRO is still being treated at the hospital for his shoulder.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department says the teen has been charged with strong armed robbery and two counts of assault on a police officer while resisting arrest.

He is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in the juvenile wing.

“Our SROs are in school to protect the students, teachers and staff. This is not what school is about. We will hold those accountable who assault other students and our SROs,” Sheriff Lott continues.

During the incident the school was placed on lockdown and then moved to hold status where the students had to stay in the location they were in at the time of the incident, say district officials.
