Watch: 4 Arrested, 1 Sought in Burglaries

Newberry, S.C. (WOLO) —  On Thursday officers from Newberry and Union counties announced the arrests of four suspects the say were part of a burglary ring in the area.

Whitmire Police Chief Jeremiah Sinclair describes suspects Kenneth Braswell, Sierra Braswell, Crystal Hughes  and Donald Price as career criminals.

Authorities arestill searching for Ansel Wallen who is also believed to be involved in the string of thefts.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said, “They have targeted individuals primarily with antiques and things that can be moved rather quickly amounts of money.”

The recent thefts are a symptom of meth addiction explained Union County Sheriff David Taylor.

Sheriff Foster gave a more in depth description of the drug’s impact, “The people that are addicted to meth it has such a gross impact on their ability to work and their ability to function and in order for them to supply their meth habit and in order for them to supply their basic biological needs of eating. They have to go out and steal.”

Law enforcement leaders emphasized the cost the community bears when dealing with drug addictions.

In this case more than $10,000 of property was stolen, and that number could continue to climb.

“These folks are probably involved in other burglaries and we will continue the investigation and try to tie them into other on solved burglaries we have,” said Foster.
