ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A 25-year-old man is being charged following the death of an infant, said SLED.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said Anthony Simpson was charged with homicide by child abuse on Friday, March 1.

An arrest warrant said that deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive three-month-old-child.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced as dead.

Investigators said an autopsy revealed inflicted head trauma with subdural subarachnoid subcapsular and subgaleal hemorrhages, contusions along the jawline and a healing fractured rib.

Evidence and witness statements found that Simpson caused the injuries that led to the child’s death, the warrant states.

Simpson was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office requested the SLED Special Victims Unit Department of Child Fatalities conduct the investigation.
