New Student Enrollment at SC State Up 40 Percent

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) – The number of new students enrolled at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg increased about 40 percent this semester and the school has a problem it hasn’t had in several years – just where to house all its students.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports that President James Clark told the board of trustees Tuesday the school has used all available dormitory space and is housing students off campus.

He says two small dorms that in recent years were used as office space are now being cleaned and painted and will provide another 56 rooms.

The state’s only public historically black university enrolled almost 3,000 students this fall.
