Watch: President Obama to Award Local Teacher

Columbia,S.C. (WOLO) — A local teacher is making her way to the head of the class and turning some heads along the way.

It’s been an exciting year for Jennifer Wise.  The Hand Middle School teacher says she loves math and science, so much her passion is now earning her accolades she says were beyond her imagination.

Wise has already garnered the title of South Carolina Teacher of the Year, and now she’s getting ready for another dubious award. Wednesday the Algebra teacher will head to Washington, DC where she’s expected to accept the Presidential award for excellence in math and science at the White House.

Each year President Obama picks some 2 hundred teachers for their excellence in education that goes beyond the classroom, and this year Wise is among them.
