SC Education Oversight Committee releases annual evaluation
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A classroom full of eager 4 year olds are embarking on a journey of early learning.
The South Carolina Education Oversight Committee has released its annual evaluation, revealing 4 years olds participating in the state funded Full-day 4k Child Early Reading and Development Education Program are more likely to demonstrate readiness on the kindergarten readiness assessment.
The program provides young learners with foundational skills in Math, English, and crucial socialization experiences.
Administered by private centers through First Steps and also in public schools by the Department of Education, it assesses whether students in the Full-day 4k Program perform better than their peers who did not participate.
The Education Oversight Committee has requested an increase of $14.1 million in Education Improvement Act funds from the state to be devoted to the expansion.
