Gamecocks Take 10th At Carpet Capital Collegiate

Gamecocks logo hi-resROCKY FACE, Ga. (USC SID) — South Carolina placed 10th in its first outing of the year at the Carpet Capital Collegiate today after shooting an 875 (+11). The Gamecocks shot a 297 (+9) Sunday, 295 (+7) Saturday and a 283 (-5) on Friday. Scott Stevens posted the low round of the day for the Gamecocks with a 69 (-3).

Virginia won the tournament in commanding fashion after finishing 31-under-par. The Cavaliers shot 280 (-8) on the final day. Auburn took home runner-up honors after carding a final team score of 25-under-par. Clemson (-16) and LSU (-12) rounded out the top-four.

Georgia Tech’s Luke Schniederjans took home top individual honors with a final score of 11-under-par. Schniederjans shot 69 in round one, 66 in round two and 70 today en route to the top of the leaderboard.

Junior Keenan Huskey shot under-par for the third consecutive day, carding a 71 (-1) on Sunday. He finished the tournament in 16th with a score of 5-under-par. Huskey’s round of 71 today was the 22nd of his career under-par. The Greenville, S.C. native shot 3-under on the front nine Sunday with three birdies. Huskey finished the day with four birdies and 14 birdies total for the tournament.

Stevens’ team-leading 69 today was his first round under-par at the tournament. He finished tied for 38th after posting a final score of 3-over-par. Stevens had four birdies Sunday, including three on the back nine. He shot a 35 (-1) on the front nine and a 34 (-2) on the back.

Sophomore Ryan Stachler finished the tournament tied for 60th with a final score of 10-over-par. The Alpharetta, Ga. native carded an 80 (8+) on the final day of action. He shot a 38 (+2) on the front nine and a 42 (+6) on the back.

Sophomore Will Miles carded a final round 78 (+6) to finish the tournament 13-over-par, tied for 68th. Miles carded a 42 (+6) on the front nine today and a 36 (E) on the back with one birdie.

Ben Dietrich finished the tournament tied for 49th at 6-over-par after a final day 79 (+7). The Bluffton, S.C. native carded 40 (+4) on the front nine with one birdie and a 39 (+3) on the back.

True freshman Jamie Wilson, who played in his first tournament as a Gamecock this weekend, carded a 72 (E) on the final day of action to finish tied for 38th with Stevens. The Mt. Pleasant, S.C. native, who played individually in the tournament, shot a 40 (+4) on the front nine and a 32 (-4) on the back with five birdies. Wilson’s five birdies Sunday led the team.
