USC professor, author finalist for Pen/Faulkner Award
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A local author and USC English professor is now a finalist for America’s highest prize for fiction, the Pen/Faulkner Award.
Professor Claire Jimenez says being nominated for the award was shocking but becoming one of the five finalist is a dream come true.
She was nominated for her novel “What Happened To Ruthy Ramirez” which tells the story of a Staten Island woman who go on a road trip to find their long-lost sister.
Jimenez says she hopes her success inspires her students to write and share their stories. She also hopes readers do not miss one of the main takeaways of the novel.
“What Happened To Ruthy Ramirez” has also been named a must read by USA Today.
