Double murder suspect indicted on gambling charge

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — An Irmo man awaiting trial for killing his wife and another man has been indicted on a federal charge that he ran a gambling business.
Prosecutors say the new charge was filed Monday against 42-year-old Brett Parker. Parker faces two murder charges in state court as well.
Authorities say Parker was a bookie who needed money last April when he killed his wife, Tammy, and a partner in the gambling business, Bryan Capnerhurst. Richland County deputies say Parker tried to make the killings look like self-defense.
Prosecutors say Parker was $600,000 in debt and had a $1 million insurance policy on his wife.
Parker’s attorney has denied the charges, saying Capnerhurst killed Parker’s wife while trying to rob the couple and Parker then shot his friend.
