Woman Arrested in Clown Sighting Hoax

LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO) – The Lexington Police Department has made an arrest on charges stemming from multiple false reports and 911 calls in regards to suspicious clown sightings.

Authorities say that between September 8 and September 11,  22-year-old Ashley Nicole Cross  of Lexington, made 3 separate 911 calls in regards to suspicious “clown sightings” at Lauren Ridge Apartments located at 500 Carlen Avenue.

Through follow-up investigation police say they determined that Cross lied about the “clown” sightings.

Cross turned herself into police yesterday and was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on one count each of unlawful use of 911 and providing false information to law enforcement.

She has since made bond and been released, police say.
