Sales begin for first OTC birth control pill
(CNN)– Online sales began for the first over-the -counter birth control pill approved in the U.S. on Monday morning.
Opill can be bought directly from its own website opill.com and Amazon.
Some major retail pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens have said they will offer Opill once they receive shipments.
CVS said it expects to have it available later this month.
Manufacturer Perrigo has a suggested retail price of $20 for a one month supply and $50 for a three-month supply.
The company says when taken as directed, Opill is 98% effective at preventing pregnancy.
That’s in line with the effectiveness of most birth control pills.
