IKEA expands its U.S. meat-free menu with ‘Plant Dog’

(CNN)– Furniture may be the main draw at Swedish retailer IKEA but some people go there just for the food including Swedish meatballs and hotdogs.

And now the Scandinavian furniture chain is expanding its plant-based menu to include a vegan hotdog.

The ‘Plant Dog’ as it’s called has been available at IKEAS in Europe since last summer but its now making its debut in the U.S.

Its made from a combination of rice protein, apply, onion, salt, and pepper.

The price is welcome news amid stubborn inflation, it only costs 70 cents.

The plant dog joins other meat free menu items including plant balls, veggie balls, veggie dogs and strawberry soft ice.
