LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Midlands man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison following a burglary in Lexington County, says the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Dwight Anthony Powell, 42, of Saluda, was convicted by a Lexington County jury for burglary – second degree (violent) and attempted grand larceny, value $10,000 or greater.

He was sentenced by a circuit court judge to eight years in prison after his trial.

Investigators say on the morning of Tuesday, November 10, 2020, an Irmo attorney found that his garage and storage building, both located behind his business on Woodrow Street had been burglarized.

Many valuable items including an antique bed had been removed from the building during the nighttime and were outside against the side of the structure.

Also, a lock from the garage area of the building had been removed.

A convertible Maserati valued at over fifteen thousand dollars was still stored at the building which deputies were able to use to get fingerprints from the window of the car.

After a fingerprint analysis by SLED, two individuals were identified as suspects.

One was Dwight Powell and the other was a cooperating co-defendant who testified during the trial, says the Solicitor’s Office.

Law enforcement say the investigation determined that Powell and the co-defendant had gone to steal the Maserati but were unable to get it started.

Powell will be immediately transferred to the S.C. Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.
