COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia College has picked its new and first head coach for its new men’s basketball program.
Jake Deer will coach the team when their inaugural basketball season begins in fall 2024.
“I’d like to thank President Dozier and Mr. Crawford for the opportunity to start and lead the Men’s Basketball program at Columbia College. I’m excited to get started!,” said Coach Deer.
Deer is joining the team from a 21-year career in Collegiate Athletics, having most recently been at Point University in West Point, Georgia.
During his time there, Deer led his players to a 2020-2021 AAC Regular Season Championship and received a AAC Coach of the Year Award.
“Jake is the perfect addition to our team at Columbia College. His dedication to his players and the sport of basketball is evidenced through his impressive and dynamic coaching experience,” shared Director of Athletics Glen Crawford.
School officials hope the new athletic program will build engagement on campus and eventually become a community stronghold.
As of April 1, Coach Deer has assumed his head coaching position.
