(CNN) – Two children and a teacher were shot by a teenage gunman at an elementary school in Townville, South Carolina, a spokesman for Anderson County Emergency Management told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

The two students were sent to a local trauma center, Taylor Jones said.

The teacher was also hospitalized. The shooter is in custody. The severity of the injuries is not known.

Armed officers were at the school by about 2 p.m. Multiple law enforcement vehicles lined the driveway.

Parents were waiting nearby and children were being brought out of the back of the school.

The evacuated students moved by bus to Oakdale Baptist Church at 6724 Highway 24 in Townville. Family members are being asked to go to the church, not to the school.

Officers were walking on the roof of the school as other deputies and officers cleared the building. Two helicopters landed in a field by the school.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office is headed to a reported death on Osborne Road in Townville that officials say is connected with the incident at the school. The location is a little more than 3 miles from school.
