9th annual Super Eliza 5K raises money for rare genetic condition
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Several South Carolinians put their shoes to the pavement to be a superhero for a Midlands girl.
Many gathered at Earlewood Park to support the 9th annual Super Eliza 5k on Saturday.
Eliza O’neill is a young girl living with Sanfilippo Syndrome which is a rare terminal genetic disorder that can lead to problems in the brain and nervous system.
The 9th annual run raises money for research and awareness for Eliza and other children like her. There is no cure so far.
Over the past 9 years, the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation has raised more than 115 thousand dollars.
ABC Columbia spoke with Eliza’s parents about how this disease affects their family.
