Recognizing Our “Heroes in Blue”

Columbia, S.C (WOLO) — It’s been just more than a year since the shooting death of Greg Alia, a officer who worked with the Forest Acres Police.

Immediately after Greg’s death, his wife Kassy left to raise their young son alone says she was comforted by the public giving her the strength to continue moving forward. But that wasn’t all Kassy did. In honor of her husband, she started the non profit organization, Heroes in Blue.

The organization aims to help raise money to assist the families of fallen officers. the Facebook page filled with stories of the good that many of the men and women in blue do in the community everyday. It also displays pictures of her fallen hero Greg and stories about the man he was for her to share with their son.

It appears the organization is making a huge impact, the first event “A Knight of Honor” set to take place October 7th has been met with an outpouring of support. Kassy says tickets for that event,  completely sold out thanks to the generosity of those wanting to help from the community.
