Man found safe in another state, says Sumter Police

Sumter, SC (WOLO) — The family of a man missing since Sunday is hoping members of the community may be able to help them find their loved one. The Sumter Police Department says they are searching for 50 year old Gilbert Hayes of Webb Avenue who was last seen Sunday morning around 8 a.m. after being discharged from Prisma Health Tuomey hospital.

Police say Hayes has several health conditions that increase the concern for his whereabouts. Authorities say it is still unknown if Hayes was walking, or riding when he left the hospital and family says they have no idea where he might have gone. Hayes is described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 228 pounds and is bald.

Police ask anyone who knows of his whereabouts or may have seen him to contact the Sumter Police Department by calling (803)436-2700 or in the event of an emergency 9-1-1.
