Jellyfish Business Proposed for Beaufort County

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) _ A seafood processing company wants to bring a jellyfish processing plant to Beaufort County creating as many as 250 jobs. The Beaufort Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/13IFI1P) that Millenarian Trading Co. wants to rehabilitate the shrimp docks in Port Royal and create the processing plant. Port Royal Town Manager Van Willis says the town council is considering a five-year lease for the docks. The property is owned by the State Ports Authority but will be given to the town in a swap if the Port of Port Royal is sold to a developer. The seafood company wants to catch Cannonball jellyfish, also called jelly balls. During processing the jellyfish are dried and preserved before being shipped to seafood markets in Asia.
