Man in custody, juvenile identified as Sumter officers continue to investigate fatal shooting
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– A 19-year-old is in custody and a juvenile has been identified in connection with the fatal shooting of a driver in Sumter, say police.
On Monday, May 27, a driver was fatally shot and the passenger inside of the vehicle was injured and taken to a hospital at Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive.
The driver of the vehicle, Tavares Keiwaun McFadden was hit by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
His 28-year-old passenger, who also was hit by gunfire and received a wound was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Information gathered by police indicates McFadden’s car was stopped at the traffic signal on Green Swamp Road when a white sedan drove up alongside and shots
were fired before it sped away on South Guignard Drive, says Sumter PD.
Curtis Jefferson Jr., 19, of Mayesville, was placed in custody Wednesday morning and is being held at the county detention center, says Sumter Police.
Jefferson Jr., was charged with murder and attempted murder in connection to fatal shooting.
Officers also identified and are working to find a juvenile involved in the shooting, says Sumter Police Department.
The department is also continuing to gather information to identify and find other individuals and the vehicle involved in the shooting.
