SCDOT: Overnight detours scheduled at I-20 and Broad River Road interchange

SCODT building

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Starting June 2, SCDOT will begin demolishing the old bridge on Broad River Road over I-20 at exit 65.

Traffic will be directed onto the off-ramp to Broad River Road at exit 65, through the intersection and back down the on-ramp to I-20.

  • Westbound I-20 traffic will be routed through the detour Sunday, June 2 to Tuesday, June 4 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Eastbound I-20 traffic will be routed through the detour Sunday, June 9 to Tuesday, June 11 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

The department of transportation says message boards and construction signs will be placed along I-20 to inform motorists of the temporary traffic pattern.

Law enforcement will be present at the interchange of Broad River Road and I-20 (Exit 65) for traffic control.

The temporary detour is for the demolition of the old bridge on Broad River Road, which will allow for construction of a second new bridge on Broad River Road bridge over I-20 for drivers use when traveling north toward Irmo.

Drivers are advised to use caution and plan accordingly in case of delays.
