Lancaster Co. man accused of shooting former S.C. Solicitor

SledLancaster Co., SC (WOLO) — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is charging a man accused of shooting and injuring a former South Carolina solicitor. The shooting took place last night around 8 p.m. when the Sheriff’s Office found Doug Barfield suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to warrants obtained by ABC Columbia News the suspect, 23 year old Tyrone Gilford was involved in a verbal altercation with an unidentified person and started shooting a handgun at the victim while chasing them down the street. Warrants show Barfield was driving his 1993 Chevrolet Pick Up down the same street that was located near North 1st Street, and North Matson Street.

The warrant goes on to say that Gilford started shooting at the victim, two of those bullets struck Barfield’s windshield hitting him in the left arm. Two more bullets came in through the passenger side door and side window according to warrants. The victim investigators say was being chased and shot at was not struck by any of the gunfire.

According to warrants, deputies arrived at the scene and were able to locate Gilford in a rear bedroom of a home. He was taken into custody and is now being charged with two counts of Attempted Murder.

Barfield, who was hit by gunshots served as Lancaster County Solicitor from 2006 through 2014.
Investigators say he was off duty at the time of the shooting and is expected to recover.
The shooting will be investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
