First-time unemployment claims increases

(CNN)– First time unemployment claims are up.

New data from the U.S. Department of Labor released today shows two hundred and twenty-nine thousand Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week.

That’s eight thousand more claims than what was filed the week before.

The number exceeded economists expectations.

It’s the highest weekly claims total in a month but the number of weekly claims is still lower than pre-pandemic levels.
