Orangeburg deputy kills man in confrontation

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting death of a man by an Orangeburg County sheriff’s deputy.
Deputy Coroner Sean Fogle says 42-year-old Barry Caldwell of Orangeburg died in the shooting Tuesday afternoon near an elementary school.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says one of his officers responded to a harassment call when the shooting occurred.
Residents in the neighborhood say Caldwell had a shovel during the confrontation with the officer.
