City of Columbia hosting book drive for launch of “Little Libraries” initiative

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The City of Columbia is hosting a community book drive to support the launch of the new “Little Libraries” initiative.

City officials say the initiative is part of the Columbia Streams Art public art program.

Charming boxes will provide easy access to books for children and families and encourage the “take one, leave one” practice, say officials.

From Thursday, July 11, through Wednesday, July 31, residents are encouraged to donate gently used youth books to the book drive to seed the launch of the Little Libraries.

Donations can be made at the City of Columbia City Hall, located at 1737 Main Street.

Local youth groups from the City of Columbia Parks have up-cycled newspaper boxes, transforming them into Little Libraries that will be unveiled across North Columbia in August.
