Sumter County deputies find stolen gun during traffic stop

Shaquanna Cristina Denise Adams was arrested for multiple charges and citied after a traffic stop in Sumter County, say deputies.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A woman was arrested in Sumter County after deputies say they attempted a traffic stop on Friday.

The sheriff’s office says a deputy made a routine traffic stop on Friday, July 12, around 4:15 p.m. when the deputy saw a vehicle disregard a stop sign at an adjacent intersection.

The deputy says an odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle when approaching it. Shaquanna Cristina Denise Adams admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle multiple bags of suspected marijuana and a bag of pills in a variety of colors was found. Adams told deputies the pills were ecstasy.

In addition to the drugs, the deputy located a semi-automatic handgun.

A check of the handgun revealed that it was listed as being reported stolen, says the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Adams was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and released on personal recognizance bonds totaling $10,000.

She was charged with possession of a stolen handgun, and distribution of methamphetamine.

Also, Adams was citied with disregard of a stop sign, simple possession of marijuana, failure to maintain proof of insurance in the vehicle.
