Sumter Co. deputies arrest man accused in attempted murder

Sumter Co., SC (WOLO) — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man accused of Attempted Murder. Deputies say they were called to a North Main Street business around 9:30 pm Sunday night after getting reports that gunshots were being fired in the area.

Deputies say when they arrived they discovered a car riddle with bullet holes. According to officials, no one was injured. Deputies say victim had been inside of the same vehicle when they claim the suspect, 30 year old Ervine Washington, Jr. who was in another car started shooting. Authorities say the car was struck so badly bullet fragments were found inside the car.

After investigating and documenting the crime scene and collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses deputies discovered Washington and the driver of the other car had been involved in an argument just before the shooting. Authorities were able to obtain a warrant that they they served to Washington Monday morning when they took him into custody.

Sheriff Dennis released a statement concerning the incident saying,

“This investigation is only hours old, and our deputies have already taken the suspect into custody.”

Washington is being held at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
