Local Living: Ready Set Supply school drive, Clear the Shelter event, “803” Day, Sexyy Red coming to Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— In today’s look at Local Living, you still have time to donate items for United Way of the Midlands’ 3rd annual “Ready Set Supply” drive.

The deadline to deliver supplies is on Thursday, Aug. 1.

You can donate items like pencils, glue, and notebooks at the United Way location on Blanding Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It’s to help stock the classrooms of elementary school educators throughout the Midlands.

 

Columbia Animal Services is hosting a Clear the Shelter event.

The free adoption special is going on now through the end of the month.

To find your new fur-ever friend you can head to the shelter location at 127 Humane Lane.

They’re open Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Registration is open for the first ever “803” Day. The fun kicks off this Saturday.

You can take part in several activities including a 5K run/walk, a festival, and a city-wide scavenger hunt.

Event organizers say the day symbolizes unity, pride, and a vibrant spirit of the Columbia area.

 

Hip Hop fans there is some exciting news to pass along to you.

Officials with the Colonial life arena say artist Sexyy Red will headline a birthday bash for radio station Hot 103.9 on November 1.

The station is celebrating 25 years in Columbia. Tickets go on sale this Friday morning, August 2, at 10 a.m.
