Milken Award Surprises Recipient

Columbia, S.C (WOLO) — One local teacher gets an A for her tireless work in the classroom, and a hefty monetary award to go along with it.

Vanessa Torres is a Spanish teacher at Nursery Road Elementary school who was shocked when she was announce as this year’s recipient of the Milken Educator Award.

Torres is happy about the honor but says it about more than just her, but validation of the work she and her fellow teachers do everyday.

This is the 30th year the award has been given to area teachers who go above and beyond in the classroom.
