I-26 outside Charleston open after 9-hour closing

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 outside Charleston are open again after being closed for about 9 hours after an early-morning crash involving two tractor-trailer trucks.

The crash caused a fire and wood chips being carried by both trucks began to burn. The highway reopened about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The drivers were taken to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital for treatment where one was reported in fair condition and one in serious condition.

Authorities said both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The accident backed up morning rush hour traffic as traffic was rerouted around the accident site in North Charleston.
