Suspect to be Charged Following Botched Craigslist Robbery

Marcus Eugene Shumaker
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. ( WOLO) – A man faces two counts of kidnapping and attempted armed robbery charges after he allegedly robbed two men Monday night.
Just after 11:00 a.m. on January 2, deputies received a call about an armed robbery in the 100 block of Southport Drive.
Upon arrival deputies located Marcus Shumaker, 18, outside a vacant home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Investigators say they determined that Shumaker was responsible for the robbery after he lured the victims to the location with the intent to rob them.
Shumaker responded to a Craigslist ad where the victim was looking to purchase a motorcycle; once the victims arrived, Shumaker escorted them to the side of a vacant home and asked to see the money for the motorcycle that’s when Shumaker physically attacked one of the victims and assaulted him, deputies say.
Shumaker pulled out a gun during the scuffle, deputies say, but the victim was able to reach for his own handgun and fired multiple shots at Shumaker.
Marcus Shumaker will be officially charged once he is released from Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
He remains in critical condition.
