Hyundai, Kia’s new anti-theft software showing results
(CNN)– Hyundai and Kia’s latest anti-theft software update is showing results, even though car thefts remain overall high.
According to the Highway Loss Data Institute, insurance claims stolen Hyundai and Kia’s are 64% lower among cars that have had the anti-theft upgrade.
That number was compared to cars of the same make, model and year without the upgrade.
Last February, Hyundai and Kia released their updates following a spark of social media posts surfaced showing how to steal them.
From early 2020 through the first half of 2023, thefts of Hyundai and Kia’s rose more than 1000%.
According to the automakers, more than 2 million Hyundai and Kia cars have since gotten the update.
