DJJ Employee Attacked by Juveniles

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – A South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice employee was attacked by several juveniles, according to officials.
The agency’s police responded to DJJ’s Birchwood School at the Broad River Road Complex in Columbia at around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
DJJ Chief Communications Officer Patrick Montgomery released this statement:
“We are investigating what happened and exactly how it happened, but we can confidently say the rapid response of our staff and implementation of enhanced security procedures helped prevent an escalating situation. We returned to normal operations within minutes.”
