Man Killed After Crashing Into Parked Tow Truck

RICHLAND COUNTY,S.C. (WOLO)- One man is dead following a multi-vehicle collision on Saturday evening.

The wreck happened at the intersection of Claudia Drive and Roof Street around 6:15 p.m.

Troopers said Eric Jerome Karnickey, Jr.,25, of Columbia was traveling east on Claudia Drive when he struck a legally parked tow truck on the shoulder. The impact caused his 2005 Chevrolet to go across the center line and collide with a 2013 Ford.

According to Troopers the Ford was traveling West on Claudia Drive.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Karnickey died at the scene from blunt trauma to the head and neck. Watts said he was not wearing a seat belt.

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
