RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A 14-year-old was arrested after investigators say the teen took a knife to school, says RCSD.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the 14-year-old was in possession of a 4-inch knife on Blythewood High School grounds Monday.

On August 19, around 8:30 a.m., an SRO at Blythewood High School was notified by school administration that a student had a knife in their book bag.

Law enforcement say the SRO was able to determine that defender security stopped the teen before entering the school after the metal detector went off during a scan of the teen’s bag.

Security escorted the teen to a school administrator who confirmed the presence of a knife in the bag.

The SRO secured the knife and school administration contacted the students’ parents, said RCSD.

The 14-year-old was taken into custody and charged with carrying weapons on school property and then to parents.
