Columbia Animal Services to host free microchipping event

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Columbia Animal Services is hosting a free microchipping event for local pet owners.

Officials say the Sunday, Sept. 22, event is open to all City of Columbia and Richland County residents, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter on Humane Lane (127 Humane Lane).

The event aims to provide a service that will enhance pet safety and reunification efforts.

Pet owners can take their dogs and cats to receive a free microchip, which will be registered with up-to-date contact information.

This event will also include educational efforts and information about other services offered at Columbia Animal Services, according to officials.

The shelter says the free event will help remove financial obstacles, ensuring more pets are protected.
