Man Charged With Kidnapping, Sexually Assaulting Neighbor Denied Bond
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)- Edward Earl McElveen of Dalzell appeared before a judge Friday afternoon. McElveen was formally charged and denied bond on one count of kidnapping, criminal sexual misconduct, being a felon in possession of a weapon, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Authorities arrested the 66-year-old after they say he came into a neighbor’s home and pointed a gun at the her before proceeding to bind her with duct tape and sexually assault her.
McElveen also allegedly took the woman to his home before assaulting her again.
Deputies say the victim was able to escape to a neighbors home and contact them. She helped authorities identify McElveen, having been a previous acquaintance of his.
The victim was also in court today. She declined to comment on the incident when asked but appeared visibly shaken.
This was McElveen’s first appearance in court but he is scheduled to appear again on April 7th at the Sumter County Courthouse.
