SCDC: Former correctional officer charged after sending texts to inmate on contraband phone
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– A former Wateree River Correctional Institution correctional officer was charged with two counts of misconduct in office, according to arrest warrants.
Krystle Latese Lewis, 37, of Sumter, is accused of receiving money from and sending pictures and texts to an inmate on his contraband phone.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections says on or about Sept. 19, 2022, through April 18, 2023, Lewis was in contact with the inmate on his cellphone.
Also, Lewis did not report that the inmate was in possession of the cellphone.
