Labor market rebounds after weak July report

(CNN)– The U.S. labor market picked back up in August after a surprisingly weak jobs report the month before.

According to data released on Friday, Sept. 6, by the Bureau of Labor statistics, employers added an estimated 142 thousand jobs last month.

That marks stronger growth than July’s worrisome low number of 89 thousand jobs.

Job gains in August inched the unemployment rate down from 4.3% to 4.2%.

The month’s total is lower than what economists expected but it is in line with the job growth seen during the past three months.
