Lexington Co. names ‘Officer of the Year’
Lexington Co., SC (WOLO) — Congratulations are in order for a Lexington County Deputy being acknowledged for going above and beyond earning her the title of ‘Officer of the Year’.
The South Carolina Jail Administrators Association chose Senior Detention Deputy Brittany Sawyer as the recipient of the award for this year during their annual training conference.
Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon released a statement surrounding the award saying,
“I’m so proud for Brittany as she is very deserving of this prestigious award,” … “She performs her duties in the Lexington County Detention Center with a spirit of service and commitment. Her colleagues can always count on her.” Koon went on to say, “Brittany routinely receives recognition for detecting and removing contraband as inmates are being processed into the jail,” Koon said. “This helps ensure the safety and security of inmates and staff within the facility, which makes our entire community safer.”
It appears this is not the first time Deputy Sawyer has been noticed for her hard work. According to officials, Sawyer who graduated South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy as a member of Basic Detention Class in 2020 and was then, according to her nomination, acknowledged for her hard work and “success” in keeping contraband out of the jail.
