Furman Rolls Past Stetson To Claim First Win, 48-7

Greenville, S.C. – Freshman Trey Hedden threw for 267 yards and senior Joshua Harris compiled a career-high 164 receiving yards as Furman rolled to a 48-7 victory over Stetson on Saturday afternoon at Paladin Stadium to claim its first victory of the season.

With Furman leading 10-0 in the second quarter, Hedden connected with Ben Ferguson on a 51-yard touchdown strike with 3:39 on the clock and found Harris for a 50-yard score with just 59 seconds left in the half to propel the Paladins to a 24-0 lead at intermission. Furman drove 90 yards in five plays on the opening drive of the third quarter, capped by Hedden’s 13-yard scoring run, before Ian Williams booted a school-record 57-yard field goal. Hedden hit Harris on a 30-yard touchdown pass on Furman’s next possession to cap a second consecutive 17-point quarter and extend the Paladin lead to 41-0.

Harris hauled in seven passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon while Hedden went 20-of-27 through the air for 267 yards. Freshman Gavin Hall added 72 yards rushing and a touchdown as Furman piled up 510 yards of total offense and 27 first downs.

The Paladin defense limited Stetson to just 244 yards of offense, including only 101 on the ground. Freshman Billy Lewis recorded two of Furman’s three interceptions and Evan DiMaggio finished with six tackles and a pick.

Furman (1-2) closes out the non-conference schedule next Saturday with a 6 p.m. kickoff against William & Mary at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va. Stetson travels to face Harvard at noon on Saturday in Cambridge, Mass.
